Not your everyday drive!
If you know the area, you know this isn’t a trip for the faint hearted. We flew from Kathmandu to Baradapur near the Indian border to begin our overland trip. But arrival at the small airport, we discovered that we were in the midst of a “banda” transportation strike. No motorized vehicles were permitted on the road.
We were supposed to be met by our van and ride to the border and then on to the hill town of Darjeeling. The border was 30 kilometers away and our van was as well.
Our guide brought rickshaws, we brought our seat cushions, and off we went for a few hours of one of the most delightful rides of our lives.
